A List: Easter
Hippity, hoppity.
Sometimes my algorithm shows me Type C mom content and I’m like, Oh, it’s me. I am a person who cares a lot about details, but I am also just disorganized enough that holidays and important dates often sneak up on me. I have been trying to stay afloat amidst endless sick days1, a busy month at work, and a lot of solo parenting c/o tennis season in our house. So in case you’re in the same boat, here’s another list, from me to you (but really from me to me, because I needed to get it together). We’re ten days out from Easter so if you start now, you might be able to avoid driving to three stores at 8pm on April 4th, in search of plastic eggs and candy.2
On Baskets
A tisket, a tasket: We have these, and they’re not fancy but they work great for little ones, store easily, and aren’t expensive. Don’t forget to grab eggs (because you won’t be able to find the ones you bought last year), and paper grass, which you’ll keep finding on the floor for the next few weeks.
Candy: Yes, I’ll buy some. But since other members of our family really delight in giving my daughter sugar, I mostly try to stick to other things for baskets.
Fill it up: I like to find things that we might like for spring, things that are consumable, or things we need to restock. I do like to be a magic maker, but I also desperately hate all the tchotchkes and junk that seem to constantly appear (and disappear) in my house 😬
Btw, Elin Strong said we can throw things away, and I’m here for it.Things you won’t want to immediately throw away: We’re on our fourth year of loving these paint sticks and it’s time for a new set, everyone needs a springtime bubbles refill, a fun decoder for a joke-loving kindergartner, teethers and a sippy cup for the baby in your life, most things are cuter in egg form, some polish for little piggies, glitter chalk because we all need more sparkle in our lives, everyone’s favorite fidget, a very sweet first bunny.
Getting dressed
I get most of Easter outfit inspiration from Steel Magnolias3. My daughter is wearing a dress I bought for her last year, and this one is similar. I bought this bubble for my son on Poshmark4, but I also had my eye on this one and this.
If you’re going a little more casual, I love this dress. My son wore this romper last summer and it is so cozy.
I’m planning to wear an older version of this skirt5, a cardigan, and my favorite flats.
If your husband is like mine, he can choose from a wide selection of the many similar blue shirts he owns.

Easter 2022
What to eat
Raisinets6 and Reese’s eggs, as many as you want
Deviled eggs, obviously. Maybe a ham. Maybe a ham party, a la Alison Roman
Definitely a dessert, I love olive oil cake
Something festive to drink (N/A option, too!)7
Ina Garten’s Easter menu, if you feel like really doing it right
Things to do
Watch Steel Magnolias
Grab some books from the library (we put these on hold: Easter on the Farm, Elijah’s Easter Suit, The Easter Chick, Peekaboo Easter)
Find an egg hunt in town, or make one in your backyard
Buy some flowers (I like to get tulips and hyacinth from Trader Joe’s). I’m also going to cut some daffodils and forsythia branches from our yard.
Some spring break activities: print some coloring sheets, or get into a craft, go on an spring scavenger hunt, grab a roll of paper and cover your kitchen table with it for a family coloring session, and when all else fails — give yourself a break and turn your living room into a movie theater for the afternoon
I really believe that we don’t need to go over the top to make things feel special. One of my favorite things about my daughter is how easily she’s thrilled by the little things. I love that a new set of sidewalk chalk and a bottle of bubbles will send her completely over the moon. We’re mostly wearing things we’ve already had in our closets. Holidays don’t need to be overwhelming and involve tons of decorations and gifts, especially if that’s not for you right now. I love a little magic, and a lot of spring whimsy. But not when it feels like a chore. My bottom line is this — do what feels good and leave the rest. Hope this helps with your pre-holiday overwhelm.
Let me know what’s on your list for spring break, Easter, and Passover!

We had high hopes that this would be our first full week of daycare in six weeks but baby boy was home again today with a fever. Help.
An experience I have unfortunately had more than once.
This is a joke, but also not.
Poshmark is always my first search for fancier kids clothes. This came with tags on!
It’s bold to wear a white maxi skirt when you are parenting two young children, but you can do anything as long as you have a good attitude and a Tide pen in your bag.
Raisinets were in my Easter basket every year and I love them dearly.
