Im taking a gamble on the fruit because its 50% of our diet over here 😂. We are in a heat wave and that’s not going well with a 20 month old toddler, helppppppp

Loved this and so deep into summer I can’t see anything but bliss! We are making our ornaments and taking on water color painting. A lot harder than it seems! Eating — lots of

Mozzarella, tomato and basil salads (no lettuce, lol). So fyi— you’re very much not alone!

Tricia Torley's avatar

Um, just got to your post this morning and those ornaments are GORG. I keep reminding myself that the whole point of summer is to chill out, and that whatever makes me a more rested person in September is the right thing to do.

I feel you on the lows and highs. Sometimes I’ll do a brain dump and just write out every thought to empty my thoughts and try to reset. I’m glad you wrote it down and hit send!

Tricia Torley's avatar

I LOVE a good brain dump. After I get everyone out the door this morning, I'm planning to sit in the kitchen and write out a list of everything in my head.

Natalia Cropper's avatar

It’s the best exercise I’ve found to relieve my anxiety and help me reset.

such a good list of recs and honored to be among them! i love lily king and tore through heart the lover. if you haven’t read writers & lovers, i recommend that first!

Tricia Torley's avatar

I did read Writers & Lovers! I'm excited to get through this after seeing all the hype :)

High summer, low vibes belongs on a tote bag. And the luteal phase section made me feel alarmingly seen. Love your words Xx

Tricia Torley's avatar

Honestly, I feel like carrying around a "Low Vibes" tote during a luteal phase would be a kindness to everyone around me 😂 Thanks for reading!!

Felt every word of this. I forgot about the term “ennui” but boy does it capture the current mood. So many ideas, so many things to say, and yet.

I keep coming back to this note Grace Abbott shared a few days ago: “what if instead of cringing before you hit post you said a prayer it would reach whoever needed to read it.” It really shifted my (perfectionist people pleasing) brain that the goal is not to write something perfect. It’s to write something honest!

And one of my favorite parts about your writing is that it’s always honest and makes me feel less alone in a feeling.

That’s more than enough 🤍🤍🤍

Tricia Torley's avatar

Oh I love that idea from Grace! Sometimes when I get in a funk like this, I do wonder if it's my brain/body's way of telling me to just slow the f down. Appreciate you so very much!!

Allison's avatar

Slow down, take a break, and (dare I say) take care of yourself! 🤍

Ps hell yeah on speaking goals into existence!!! 🤘🏼

If you didn't say, I wouldn't have known based off of this post that you're writing isn't coming how you'd like it too. I also sometimes find myself frozen not able to start because it's all TOO much, but I love your practical advice, bit by bit. xx

Tricia Torley's avatar

I appreciate you! And I know you're also having a WEEK, so I hope you're taking care of yourself.

love how you started with all the highs. such good reminders to always start there. and your highs were so good…contractor quotes never come in under budget these days! that’s amazing!

Tricia Torley's avatar

I am trying so, so hard to lead with the positive, so I appreciate the encouragement! I'm keeping all my fingers and toes crossed that the quote actually matches the final total 🫣

it’s amazing how your day changes when you focus on the positive!

The highs and lows this summer are real! I'm right there with you. Thanks for not deleting any of these sentences because we needed to read them. Oh, and I loved Wreck. Did you read Sandwich, too? I'm low-key jealous you get to experience Heart the Lover for the first time. ENJOY...with tissues. xo

Tricia Torley's avatar

Appreciate you, and hope you're finding your break to be restful :) I did love Sandwich, but her earlier book We All Want Impossible Things is one of my all-time favorites.

I'm celebrating all your wins, and I'm sorry you are feeling nervous about the parasite and not being able to go outside. A lot of it is out of our control; just wash produce many times with vinegar and buy those vegetable wash sprays, I think you'll be fine. Hope this is a better week! Love that you are working on yourself. The pelvic floor excercise are very important

Tricia Torley's avatar

Thank you Nati, I hope your first week at work was a good one. You're right -- focusing on what we can control is a good way to stay grounded.

Please report back…I’m so curious to hear what you think about the ending of Heart the Lover. I had low morale last week too, and can empathize with struggling to find the mojo to do anything. That being said, it’s ok! Sometimes we just can’t be productive and that’s normal…although you seem to be doing plenty, and doing it well, and thoughtfully.

Tricia Torley's avatar

Thank you Danielle! I'll keep you posted on HtL!
