This resonates so much. Iโ€™ve been feeling the guilt in all areas lately too. This part of the winter is so tough. Hang in there! Weโ€™ll get through!

Tricia Torley's avatar

This winter feels like it is going to last forever! Thanks for reading, and for your support ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿ’• My daughter has been saying the word, โ€œOftenly.โ€ No one correct her.

๐Ÿ’• The bacon egg and cheese sandwich my husband brought me on a really hard day this week.

๐Ÿ’• Low stakes hot takes! Mine: I love two-factor authentication and ceiling fans.

these glimmers. in this order. really had my heart singing!!

Oh Tricia, giving you a giant hug! I promise youโ€™re doing it all perfectly and youโ€™re earning whatever is better than the blue cap! These days are so long and challenging and yet, weโ€™re also built for this, but itโ€™s so hard to dig deep for more to give when youโ€™re already at capacity.

Your bit about mom guilt was this exact thought I keep having too, like, no matter what, Iโ€™m letting someone down. While itโ€™s not always easy to give yourself compassion, youโ€™re doing great and youโ€™re in good company, from one tired mama to another.

I hope the rest of this season feels a little less choppy for you, friend. โค๏ธ

Thank you Marina! I appreciate you reading, and all your encouragement :) I sometimes get lost in the myth that everyone else has it all together, even when I know itโ€™s not true. Weโ€™re all figuring it out bit by bit.

Hi, hello! I am also a school counselor and did this same sprint when my kids were little - hang in there, you are doing great!

Tricia Torley's avatar

Hi! Glad to hear from someone who gets it (and has lived to tell the tale!). Thanks for reading!

โ€˜Maybe itโ€™s the Mucinexโ€™ might be my new go-to saying for everything in life, lol. As always, such a gorgeous piece, Tricia. Getting our footing back as teachers after taking time to care for our families is so hard. I always feel like our mom guilt is amplified as school professionalsโ€”we spend so much time with other peopleโ€™s kids, and sometimes our own donโ€™t always get the best of us when we get home. I loved your looksโ€”especially Friday!

My newest glimmer has been listening to music that lifts my spirit. Iโ€™m loving Alex Warren on the record player lately. Another small but sweet win: both my kids willingly rallied around to help me put all the groceries away yesterday. Itโ€™s the little things!

PS- THANK YOU for the shout. Adore you as always.

Tricia Torley's avatar

Kids helping with chores always feels like a big win! I so appreciate that you always understand -- it is so hard to be a good person for ALL the kids. Hope you have a good week :)

Oh man I feel this all so deeply! So beautifully written โค๏ธ

Thanks for reading, Carly! I appreciate it.

Did you see me persevering ๐Ÿฅน I canโ€™t.

I'm going to be so devastated when kindergarten is over, I wish I could bottle it up.

Loved this one โค๏ธ Also LOVE working to a jazz album. Lately I keep listening to Oscar Peterson. 10/10

Thank you! I'm going to add that to my list. I've been revisiting a lot of Bill Evans lately :)

I really want to try that N/A negroni you posted, yum! My son has been shaknig his finger and saying "no, no, no"--I wonder where he got that haha.

Going back to work, pumping, and sending your child to daycare is A LOT. The routine gets easier and more manageable. Thank you for sharing your story <3

Tricia Torley's avatar

Okay, so here's my review -- it's good. BUT, it's a little fruitier than I like? I think the Phony Negroni is the most similar to the real thing, but the Lapos is still a good time.

Always appreciate you reading, I know you get that pumping life. Thank you!

Katelyn Cnossen's avatar

I love the phony Negroni it tastes like the real deal. But Iโ€™ll have to give this one a try!

Even just reading the way you wrote this feels compassionate to me.

So many Dorinda lines live rent free in my brain. I had to show my husband clips so he could understand what Iโ€™m talking about ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

My glimmer this week is speculative but I feel like Iโ€™m noticing people making more of an effort to connect, even in casual encounters. I was working on a crafting project at a coffee shop and so many ppl stopped to ask what I was up to and expressed a yearning to craft themselves. It made me so happy.

Tricia Torley's avatar

Thank you so much for saying that! I am fortunate that long ago when we were dating, I convinced my husband to watch most Bravo shows with me lol.

I LOVE that you're crafting at the coffee shop. I would definitely stop by to ask about it!

I always describe the first few weeks back at work after baby as permanently existing in that part of a swimming pool where youโ€™re almost in the deep end and you can just barely keep your head up high enough to breath, so your swimming analogy hits home for me. Now that Iโ€™m a few years away from babies, I donโ€™t think it really gets easier, I think we all just got to be stronger swimmers. I hope you feel better, and if no one has told you lately, youโ€™re doing an incredible job!

Tricia Torley's avatar

YES. Swimming beyond my depth has definitely been a feeling I keep coming back to lately. I agree that we just become stronger swimmers. Thanks for your encouragement, I appreciate it so much.

If it makes you feel any better, it took me 4 separate attempts to get through this read because of so many external pressures and distractors.

Love the outfits. Every single one. Even the couch rotting.

Happy Counselor Week! โ™ฅ๏ธ I had an incredible guidance counselor in high school and am so grateful for his support and advising on my college application journey.

Tricia Torley's avatar

To be fair, this was so long lol. I really appreciate you taking the time to read.

I love college acceptance season. I have been known to parade my students around to brag about them when they get a really exciting letter :)

I loooove seeing the group photos in all of their t shirts!

The role of a school counselor is such a catch all and I know you end up doing so much more than the job description without being able to find much consistency day to day. It is such hard, important work. And then the way you show up for your kids and husband and yourselfโ€”you are doing a great job! Keep persevering!

A glimmer of mine this week is that my two year old calls acorns โ€œunicornsโ€ and she is always trying to find their hats!

Tricia Torley's avatar

Anna, I'm in tears. You are so kind, thank you!

I love the unicorns/acorns! Some of my other favorite mispronunciations around here - ant-velope (envelope) and cake pop demon hunters lol

This was beautiful, thank you for sharing! So sorry youโ€™re sick, hopefully this weekend you turn the corner. I loved your recognition that children that do not sleep is not a moral failing. Itโ€™s so true and needs to be repeated or etched into our brains. Thank you for your words.

Tricia Torley's avatar

Thank you Natalia! The sleep is a work in progress for me. I'm definitely a better version of myself when I get good sleep, so I wish we slept more. You can do all the "right" sleep things (I tried to at least), but babies aren't robots.

Melissa Asquith's avatar

Love this! Hopefully you will feel less stretched as time goes on or rather youโ€™ll probably just get used to it ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜…

Tricia Torley's avatar

Hah! Thank you Melissa. I agree, I think eventually you just get used to it. I appreciate you reading :)

I loved reading this! So honest โค๏ธ
